Suitable injection Sites

Suitable injection sites: insulin is not absorbed at the same speed at all sites: abdomen and thighs are the most common injection sites – at least 1 cm distance from the navel for adults and at least 3 cm distance from the navel for children. It is important to note that on the abdomen the absorption of insulin is rapid whereas on the thigh and buttocks it is slower.

Upper arms as injection sites: injections into the upper arms should only be performed after training by your healthcare professional. The reason is a higher risk of injecting into the muscle as the subcutaneous fatty tissue is usually thin and injection sites are not easily accessible.

Rotation principle: do not forget to change the injection site after every injection. Only inject into the clean injection site, do not inject into scars, redness or inflammation, tissue changes and calluses. The injection sites should be at least 1 cm away from each other: subdivide the injection zone into quadrants and change the quadrants weekly – clockwise.
