Towards a sustainable future

As a responsible and future-oriented company, sustainability is of crucial importance to us. It is therefore one of our strategic pillars. We are currently further developing our company-wide sustainability program. Our goal is to become carbon-neutral by 2030.

From conversations with users of our mylife Diabetescare products as well as from discussions with our pharmaceutical partners, we know that sustainability is a central requirement for our products. We are a family-run company with a long tradition and the long-term vision of making selfcare simpler and easier. We are clearly aware of our responsibility towards the environment and future generations. Sustainability is therefore of strategic importance to us.

Zero carbon footprint and circular economy

In recent years, we have already been able to significantly reduce our energy consumption and CO2 emissions at our production sites. Among other things, we have achieved this progress by using a heat pump to generate heat and by using a new generation of extremely efficient injection moulding machines. By 2030, we want to achieve a zero carbon footprint by further reducing our CO2 emissions and compensating the remaining emissions.

Reforestation program in Kenya

In order to compensate our CO2 emissions, we run a reforestation program in the Masai Mara region in Kenya. Through Ypsomed's reforestation program, a nature reserve is being created where there used to be virgin forest, which was then cut down for firewood. We have already planted 200 000 trees since the program started two years ago.

With our reforestation program Ahueni we strive to:

  • Plant 1 million indigenous trees.
  • Compensate CO2 emissions.
  • Increase biodiversity.
  • Create jobs.
  • Raise awareness for the importance of environmental protection.

The three pillars of sustainability

However, our sustainability program does not only comprise environmental measures, but also includes the other two pillars of sustainability.

In future, we would like to take even greater account of ecological, social and economic sustainability in our daily business decisions.

In addition to the above-mentioned ecological objectives for energy efficiency and a zero carbon footprint, our focus in the economic area is on long-term profitability, global expansion and securing Ypsomed's innovation leadership. In the area of society, we pay attention to acting responsibly towards all our stakeholders. We have social responsibility with our products and we live up to it. With our product range, we pursue the goal of making life easier for people with chronic diseases.

Materiality analysis

The basis for the further development of the Ypsomed sustainability program is a materiality analysis. In this currently ongoing analysis of our stakeholders, we evaluate which sustainability topics are the most relevant from their and our point of view. These will then flow into Ypsomed's new sustainability strategy from spring 2021 onwards.

In Ypsomed’s Annual Report 2020/21, you will be able to follow our progress in the area of sustainability.

As Ypsomed, we want to be part of the solution. In the spirit of "the decisions made today determine how tomorrow will be".
