The mylife YpsoPump has been everything I hoped for

Neil

After being diagnosed at the age of 17, I’ve lived with Type 1 diabetes for over half my life. Despite my condition being a rollercoaster journey that has challenged me both physically and mentally, it hasn’t stopped me from doing what I’ve wanted to do.

I’ve always had a love for sport and find that being active is not only a great way for me to manage my diabetes, but also a physical outlet and form of emotional therapy. Recently, I’ve turned my passion for sport and the great outdoors towards cycling and have completed many challenging events, races and adventures over the years, including cycling across Australia solo over 20 days to raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes.

I used to consider my diabetes as a setback but now I see it as more of an advantage that motivates me. The physical challenges that I set myself are what get me out of bed in the morning and give me something to aspire to. If anything, I think my journey with diabetes has been about mastering it and not letting it master me.

Why I started using the mylife YpsoPump

Last year, I had a cycling accident, which was so serious that my doctors didn’t think I would survive. It damaged my lymphatic system from the waist down so that I’m no longer able to absorb insulin injections as efficiently in my leg, which is a major problem for basal injections. As a result, I had to return to insulin pump therapy, which I hadn’t used for a number of years.

I compared the different pumps on the market and decided that, because of its size, weight and ease of use, the YpsoPump was the right one for me.

I now need to inject myself with insulin every time I eat, because my pancreas doesn’t function. It’s a challenge, but one I’m confident I can overcome with the support of my YpsoPump. It allows me to replace uncertainty with assurance and do what I enjoy.

What I love about the mylife YpsoPump

As an extreme sports enthusiast, I find the YpsoPump to be an ideal fit for my lifestyle. The light weight and small size of the device means that it’s pretty versatile and you can stash it almost anywhere! I’ve always had attachment problems with pumps, but the YpsoPump’s 360-orbit infusion set is a real bonus because it doesn’t tangle or twist when I’m moving around, which is great for training.

Day to day, I’m quite busy with family, work and training, so I love how the YpsoPump allows me to pre-fill the cartridges and take them on the go in case I run out of insulin. The simple design of the YpsoPump means I can set a temporary basal profile when I go out on my bike beforehand. There are no complicated buttons, settings or annoying alarms that could distract me while I exercise.

All in all, I have found the YpsoPump to be perfect for my active and busy lifestyle. If you’re looking for something that’s simple and easy to use, I would definitely recommend the YpsoPump!
