Why the mylife YpsoPump was the best choice for me

I’ve been living with type 1 diabetes for 40 years. Although it requires intensive management at times, diabetes has made me the resilient, patient and understanding person I am today. It has also motivated me to make healthy choices, like eating well and staying active.

For the past 14 years I have been training in Latin dance. It’s a fun social activity with the added benefit of helping me stay fit. Plus, it makes me feel great. When a song comes on that I love, and I can dance to it, it’s magic.

Compared to other types of physical activity, dance doesn’t require me to make too many adjustments to maintain my blood sugar control. If I reduce my insulin two hours before dancing and eat extra carbohydrates to fuel my training session, I can keep my blood sugar pretty stable. I also keep my mylife YpsoPump on when I dance, because it’s light and comfortable and sits discreetly under my shirt.

Choosing the mylife YpsoPump

My life moves pretty fast, and I needed a pump that could keep up with my busy lifestyle. I also wanted a pump that was discreet and easy to use. When I’m out to dinner with friends, for example, I want to be able to bolus before eating without making a show of it.

When it was time for me to choose a new pump, I tried three of the major pump brands available. Within five days of trialling the YpsoPump, I knew that it was the right choice for me.

I chose the YpsoPump for four main reasons:

  1. Size and weight: It’s very small, light and comfortable to wear, even while dancing.
  2. Easy to use: The user interface and menus are simple to navigate, making it easy to find what you want, when you want it.
  3. Minimal disruption, including alarms: Other pumps I’ve tried constantly send feedback on your blood glucose, or beep at you when delivering insulin. While this might suit others, I don’t require this level of feedback. I like how the YpsoPump only vibrates or beeps when it really needs my attention.
  4. Comfortable cannula: The mylife range has the thinnest steel needle cannula system in Australia. I find it very comfortable to use. The pump’s unique connection system also makes it easy to connect and disconnect.

My life. My choice.

Over my years of using pump therapy, I’ve learned that pump choice is a very personal decision. That’s why I trialled several pumps before deciding on the YpsoPump. I worked closely with my diabetes educator (DE) during this process. DEs have a thorough working knowledge of the available pumps and my DE provided the training and information I needed to trial each one.

My advice to anyone looking to choose a pump is to trial the available options to see how they fit in with your lifestyle before you commit. Get your DE involved, ask lots of questions and make an informed choice. There’s no better way to know which pump will best suit you.

Small, user-friendly device

One of the things I love most about the YpsoPump is how user-friendly it is. The icons on the touchscreen are easy to follow making the pump highly accessible.
